Child-Centred Learning at Woodford

At Woodford, every child is known, valued and supported to grow at their own pace. We recognise that children develop in different ways and at different times, bringing their own strengths, interests, experiences and perspectives to the classroom.

Our child-centred approach provides a safe, caring and inclusive environment where learning is responsive to each child's current needs and capabilities. Children may work on different activities, at different levels, while remaining connected as part of a supportive learning community. This helps remove the fear of failure and encourages curiosity, confidence, persistence and a genuine love of learning.

Learning alongside children of different ages and abilities also creates valuable opportunities for friendship, cooperation and mentoring. Older or more experienced students can guide and encourage others, while every child learns to respect difference, listen to alternative viewpoints and celebrate the progress of their peers.

By placing children at the centre of our decisions, teaching and relationships, we create the conditions for every learner to belong, contribute and thrive.
