Preparing for Prep is about building confidence through simple, everyday experiences. Children do not need to master everything before starting school; small steps towards independence, familiar routines and positive conversations can help them feel secure and ready for this exciting transition.
Families can support school readiness by encouraging children to practise dressing themselves, manage toileting routines, open their lunch containers and care for their belongings. Establishing predictable morning and bedtime routines can also help children adjust to the structure of the school day.
Reading together each night, asking open-ended questions and talking about shared experiences strengthens vocabulary, communication, curiosity and early literacy skills. Most importantly, speak positively about school and reassure your child that learning new things takes time.
Every conversation, routine and experience helps build a confident learner who is ready to discover, play, learn and grow at Woodford.
